1. What will the BLS in Derby do for me? The BLS will give you a chance to develop your leadership calling, working alongside more experienced leaders. It will stretch you, your faith, your gifts and your character. It is not a year off! But a year to see the foundations of your life go deeper into Christ and the potential in your life beginning to be released. 2. 4. So... do I get a chance to talk about how Im doing? One of the things that we really value here in Derby is the importance of building team. During the lecture phase we get to talk about what is impacting us through the teaching and ministry in our BLS small group. We also have opportunity to chat with those folks who have been around longer one to one. Heading towards outreach we place importance on building team. Jesus said that it was by the hall mark of real committed love for each other that the world would see that we are truly His disciples. 5. Is there no end? Do I get a break? The schedules pretty packed but most weekends are fairly free. We enjoy active attendance of local churches on Sunday. There are breaks for the Global DTS around Christmas/New Year. 6. What does the BLS cost? The cost of the outreach phase depends on the location, but as a rough guide the outreach to Argentina will cost approx £2000 and to China approx £2500. The cost covers airfare, ground fees, food and accommodation while on the four and half months outreach. 7. When are the fees due? YWAM Derbys Tuition Policy is as follows: (Please note: ALL fees are to be paid in British Pounds) Along with their application each student is responsible for a £20 non-refundable registration fee. Upon arrival the balance of the lecture phase fees (£250) is due. Each calendar month house fees are payable (aprox £200 per month) at the beginning of each month. Note the Outreach fee is in addition to the Lecture fees. To purchase outreach transport tickets please be prepared to pay £500 towards this cost 6 weeks into the school. The balance of the outreach fees is due before the outreach begins. Any exception to the above policy requires the written approval of the School Leader. (If this applies to you please contact them as soon as possible by submitting a written proposal of your payment plans to us for discussion.) 8. How do we keep in contact? For the computer friendly we can make available an Internet computer for a nominal fee for the year. Otherwise there is snail mail to the house, and the post office is just up the road. Parents and friends can also contact by phone; the best time for ringing is the evening. 9. What is the outreach phase? You will go on outreach as part of a staff and student team for 4 months (Global DTS) or 12 weeks (Urban DTS) immediately after the lecture phase. On outreach you will have the opportunity to put into practice what youve learned in the lecture phase. You will have the chance to minister in a variety of settings, which may include street evangelism, beach mission, Church work, childrens work and practical serving (South America) or prayer / intercession, coffee shop ministry and language learning (China). The Urban DTS will be targeted to a major city and will be looking to work alongside the Church and other projects that reach out to the needy in body and spirit. 10. Where is YWAM Derby located? Are there shops nearby? Derby is a multi-cultural city in the heart of England, less than 2 hours from London by mainline rail network or 10 minutes from the Derbyshire Peak national park. Its just 20 miles from Robin Hoods city of Nottingham and close to major motorways. Nottingham East Midlands airport is only twenty minutes away which is linked by direct coach to the main international airports. Overdale House (the main base) sits at the crossroads of 3 communities and close to the city centre and shops. As a large Victorian town house in a large garden it has space but also a real community feel. 11. How old to you need to be to do a BLS? You must be 18 years old or above and have completed a YWAM DTS. 12. Where will I be staying during my BLS? Overdale House will host the BLS students in dorms that they share with 2 or 3 of their fellow students. All rooms have showers, bunk beds and dressers. The house has a community feel as staff and students together share in the daily upkeep and food preparation. 13. Is the BLS full-time? Our BLS is a full-time residential course. 14. Can I bring musical instruments; will I get a chance to use them? Please bring them along, we encourage folks with musical gifts to come and play. 15. Arrivals and pick-ups Let us know in advance when youre coming and we will see what we can arrange. If flying please try to book through to East Midlands Airport or Birmingham as this is much easier for you and us. Please send us a picture then we will know who you are. 16. So how much luggage should you bring? If you bring it... you will need to be able to carry it! Especially on outreach. American airlines do cater for a greater luggage allowance than European flights... be advised as the excess can be expensive! 17. What do I do to get started? Just download the application forms, fill them out and send them to us.
